The whole thing in a breath

Belfry runs entirely on your phone. No account, no advertising, no analytics, no network calls. Your chosen method, trace colour and quiz scores are written to the app's own storage and stay there.

Who is answerable

SERIOUS SPORT TRAINING ACADEMY LTD, trading as EchoRidge Studio, 3 Walker Close, Westhampnett, Chichester PO18 0GX, United Kingdom; director Brian Nicholas Morgan. That company is the controller of any personal data mentioned on this page, under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Its address for all of it is rounds@serioussport.team.

What the app remembers

• the stage and method you last had open, and which bell you were tracing;
• your quiz scores and how far through the primer you are;
• settings: treble line on or off, trace colour, pace, backdrop, whether the tick sounds.

Nothing else, and none of it travels. There is no server behind the app to receive it and no sign-in to attach it to. Your own Android backup at Google may include this handful of preferences, if you have that switched on, which is a matter between you and Google.

Permissions, and the tick

None are requested. The optional tick that marks each strike is a short sound the app plays through the ordinary media output; it needs no microphone and no permission, and turning it off changes nothing else. No camera, no location, no contacts, no files, no network.

Not counted, not sold

No advertising identifier, no analytics library, no crash SDK of our own, no profiling. We cannot tell whether anyone has ever opened the app, let alone which method they are struggling with.

Google Play

The download comes through Google Play on Google's own terms. If a device sends usage and diagnostics to Google, aggregate crash and performance figures may reach our Play Console. Nobody is identifiable in them, and their only use is finding faults.

Younger learners

Recruits at a tower are often young, and the app suits them: it collects nothing from anyone of any age, and it has no chat, no links out and nothing to buy.

Letters, and how long we keep them

Writing to us hands over your address and whatever you put in the message. We use it to answer and to correct the app, on the basis of our legitimate interest in replying to correspondence, and delete the thread within twelve months of the last reply unless we are obliged to keep it longer.

Rights, and where to complain

Access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability all apply, although an email exchange is the only thing we could ever produce. Ask, and an answer follows within a month. If it does not satisfy you, the Information Commissioner's Office takes complaints at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Ringing it down

To clear everything the app holds, open its entry in Android's settings, go to storage and clear the data; uninstalling does the same. Scores and settings go together and there is no copy anywhere to restore from. This page is rewritten, with a new date on the plate above, before any release that changes what the app does with data.
